Trade Sexual Health (Trade) is a vibrant LGBTQ+ health and wellbeing charity based in Leicester. We have more than 20 years’ experience of working to improve the sexual health of gay and bisexual men across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland. We also carry out wider HIV prevention work with people in the local area. Our services are person-centred providing wraparound support to the individual. Our creative and high impact projects and initiatives are highly regarded as examples of best practice and have been adopted nationally. Building on these successes, we have ambitious plans to expand our services to support the health and wellbeing of the whole LGBTQ+ community in the East Midlands and are launching a range of new initiatives in 2024, with more to come.

The Walking Group Leader play a crucial role in helping Trade to relaunch and expand its provision of social support to people living with HIV (PLHIV) across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland. Specifically, the Walking Group Leader will be central to the delivery of our Walking, Positively social walking group for PLHIV in Leicester. The Walking, Positively walking group is open to anyone living with HIV who lives or works in Leicester, although it is focused on improving the health of older PLHIV in the city (ie those aged 50+). This project is funded for 1-year by the Active Leicester Community Fund. The post-holder will:

  • Plan and organise a series of gentle, accessible walks (of about 5k distance) around the city’s parks (complemented by some longer 10k+ walks in locations in and around the city). These regular social walks should be designed to encourage PLHIV to get more active and build their confidence and ability to incorporate regular exercise into their lives. a series.
  • Lead 15+ walks over a 10-month period, in parks and greenspaces around the city (it is anticipated that these walks will alternate between weekday evenings and weekends to maximize opportunities for engagement).
  • Work with a group of volunteers to encourage participants in the walks to mix and make new social connections, encouraging them to stay fit and active in other ways, and signposting them to other appropriate support services.
