Using Sexual Health Service Clinics

Confidentiality

No-one will be contacted with details of your sexual health test without your permission, not even:

• Your GP

• Your partner

• Your parents

• Other hospital departments

• Other agencies (e.g. insurance companies)

Who can come to the Clinic?

• Anyone can have a check-up.

• It doesn't matter what your age is (unless attending a CHOICES clinic, which is only open to those aged 24 and under).

• You don't need a letter from your doctor.

• You can come by yourself or bring a friend or partner for support.

At both Sexual Health Clinics, treatment is FREE and is dispensed from within the Clinic.

• Male and female doctors are available.

• Waiting times can vary depending upon demand and you will be told how long the wait is upon arrival. It is suggested to go as early as possible at the start of drop-in clinic times and no later than 30 minutes before the end of the clinic.

• If you are aged 24 and under, it is recommended to use the dedicated CHOICES clinics (see below).

SHACC Clinics

SHACC (Sexual Health And Contraceptive Clinics) is an integrated, networked, NHS sexual health service in Leicester, which provides contraception and early pregnancy advice as well as investigation and treatment for sexually transmitted infections from GP practices.

Appointments take place at ordinary surgeries which will help to preserve your confidentiality. However, be aware that at some SHACC clinics notes of your visit or consultation may be added to your GP medical notes.

You do not need to be registered at a SHACC practice to get an appointment.

These clinics will be able to offer you free, confidential services offering appointments to providing:

• STI testing

• IUD/IUS implant fittings and removals

• Coil fittings and removals

CHOICES - Clinics for 24s and under

A free, confidential and friendly service, staffed by a team of nurses for young people aged 24 and under. These clinics are held in a number of places, including medical/health centres and youth venues as well as schools, colleges and universities during term time across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland

The service offers:

•  Testing and treatment for sexual infections
•  Contraceptive pills
•  Contraceptive injection
•  Contraceptive implant
•  Emergency contraceptive pill (morning after pill)
•  Free pregnancy testing, and referral for abortion (or to a midwife)
•  Free condoms 

Please note:

• Clinics held in schools, colleges and universities will run during term time only and can be used by students studying there.
• Clinics held in medical/health centres and youth venues will be closed during all public bank holidays.
