Hands up for World AIDS Day 2016

Trade Sexual Health is inviting people to come together and raise a hand to celebrate World AIDS Day 2016 on Thursday 1st December 2016. Using this year’s global World AIDS Day Message – HIV Stigma: Not Retro, just wrong. Trade is bringing you an event focused on the current HIV agenda.

The event will highlight the changes to HIV treatment. Celebrate those who have helped to move the HIV agenda forward as well as looking to the future of how we continue to reduce HIV stigma and educate others.

The interactive event will include arts & crafts and an area to reflect and light a candle of remembrance.  Entertainment will be provided by local musicians Adam Heyes and Tom Geraghty.

Trade invites you to join us and celebrate this World AIDS Day.

Event Details

Date:               Thursday 1st December 2016

Time:              5pm - 8pm

Venue:           Trade Sexual Health, 2nd Floor, 27 Bowling Green Street, Leicester, LE1 6AS

Remembrance Room

Light a candle of remembrance for a loved one and bring light into the darkness of the denial, stigma, fear, poverty, and homophobia, violations of human rights and discrimination that still fuel the spread of HIV. Light permeates darkness.

The remembrance room has been created for you to reflect and an opportunity for you to share your thoughts and feelings in writing if you wish to.

Arts & Crafts Area

Last year a mural was created which is featured on this year’s World AIDS Day poster. Trade wants to carry on providing a platform for long-lasting creations to build a history for the LGB&T communities of Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland.

Channel your inner creativity by decorating a paper hand with a message about HIV prevention, HIV testing, the red ribbon, World AIDS Day or just go wild with glitter and paint, if you wish!

Live music

We are pleased and grateful that local Distinctive Acoustic Duo: Adam Heyes and Tom Geraghty will be providing a musical back-drop to our World AIDS Day evening.  You can hear a sample of their music at http://soundcloud.com/adamheyes
