Meet the trustees

Nigel Burbidge

Nigel currently works in Medical Education and manages the Undergraduate Department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham that provides teaching to University Of Birmingham's medical students and trainee physician associates. He also works with his Post Graduate colleagues in supporting the delivery of teaching to junior doctors.

Previously to this role, Nigel has volunteered and worked in HIV/sexual health promotion for over 28 years. Beginning volunteering at Leicester Lesbian and Gay line in the late 1980's and has worked at Aled Richards Trust/Terrace Higgins Trust in Bristol during the 1990's as Gay Men's Health Co-ordinator, before moving onto manage Healthy Gay Life in Birmingham for 12 years.

Gerard's knowledge of, and respect for, Trade's important role supporting LGB&T people in Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland has its roots back in the days of working on the helpline at the Leicester LGBT Centre. He began supporting Trade as an admin volunteer at the beginning of 2016 and as that year closed became a Trustee. Working for many years in special education he now works part time as a freelance consultant specialising in the management and development of training in the deafblind field. In his leisure time, you will find him on his yoga mat!

Dr Hannah Stevens

Dr Hannah Stevens has a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Leicester. She writes short stories and Flash Fiction that have featured in numerous anthologies, magazines and websites. Her debut short story collection Without Make-up and Other Stories was published in 2012. She is also involved in various freelance writing projects and delivers freelance Creative Writing Workshops.

Hannah works part-time for a grant-giving charity where she assesses grant applications and designs and runs the systems that enable the organisation to operate effectively. She is the main contact for charities and voluntary groups in this role and is involved in writing content and copy for the website.

She has been aware of Trade's work to support Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland's diverse LGBT communities for a number of years and is delighted to be involved with the organisation's innovative and important work.

Dr Julie Holland

Dr Julie Holland is an academic with expertise in both biomedical sciences and business.

Julie has lectured at Nottingham University and Loughborough University, and she has a particular interest in innovation management, strategic business planning and healthcare management and governance. Julie has also worked in the private sector and for the NHS where she was Director of the East Midlands NHS Innovation Hub.

Julie has been chair of Loughborough University's LGBT staff group and is a keen advocate of staff role models for LGBT students.

Ken is an independent healthcare consultant who has volunteered with Trade for a couple of years before he joined the Board of Trustees. He is looking forward to being part of a great local charity which provides such valuable resources to the LGB&T community in Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland.
